OPeNDAP allows one to give a application a url and have it directly download data. To read this data into matlab use 
loaddap('http://213.55.84.78:8082/SOURCES/.Features/.Political/.Ethiopia_adm2/.Ethiopia_level2/id_0/1+index/.cc_2/dods')
