OPeNDAP allows one to give a application a url and have it directly download data. To read this data into matlab use 
loaddap('http://213.55.84.78:8082/SOURCES/.Ethiopia/.WASPqueries/.districtquery/.district/%5Bdist_na%5Dpartial/dods')
