OPeNDAP allows one to give a application a url and have it directly download data. To read this data into matlab use 
loaddap('http://213.55.84.78:8082/SOURCES/.Ethiopia/.Features/.Forecast/.belg_2012/the_geom/1+index/.year/dods')
